St Mary’s Church Sunday School caters for children age 0 to 18+ with classes taking place term time only during 9.30 Family Worship services.

The children accompany their parents to the first part of the service, during which there maybe children’s, songs, dramas, quizzes, and monthly birthday celebration.  The children are then encouraged to join a class, appropriate to their age, which takes place in the adjoining hall for the remainder of the service. Drinks and biscuits are served here at the end of the service for everyone, adults and children.

The classes available are as follows

0-3’s Crèche
3-5’s Bubbles
5- 7’s Splash
8-11 yrs Xstream
11- 18 +yrs WAM  (young people With A Mission)

On the third Sunday in the month we celebrate Family Communion, the children all come together at the beginning of the service in the Vestry for a teaching session before rejoining their families in the main body of the church.

The majority of the groups currently use Scripture Union teaching materials but there is flexibility and the older groups are actively involved in planning their own sessions and following their interests where appropriate.

We undertake to maintain good practice at all times when working with the children, adhering to the guidelines with regard to the recommended adult child ratios of 1 : 8, Child Protection and Health and Safety. All leaders have been CRB checked and reviews take place on a regular basis.

In addition to the regular Sunday School the leaders are also involved in outreach work in the form of a yearly Holiday Club in the Summer which runs for a whole week. Other themed events take place that coincide with Christian festivals.
